The New Dangers of Internet Viruses

Many of us will have heard this all before, but internet viruses will to pose a great number of dangers and threats to the safety of our information. However, even more dangers are now present due to the rise of Smartphone technology - so what are they?

Internet viruses have always posed a series of problems to computer users, causing their systems to stop functioning whilst also attempting to access their personal details. Once viruses have infected one computer they are capable of duplicating themselves for further distribution.

This is most commonly accomplished through email and instant messaging services which are sent from allegedly reputable sources but which contain malicious hyperlinks. These links contain the virus, which then infects the new system and repeats the process.

The problem with internet and computer viruses is that not all of them present themselves to the users. This means that they are undetectable by the host computers, who are not aware of the threats they are being exposed to.

The new dangers of internet viruses lie within the development of Smartphone technology. Nowadays, computers and laptops do not connect to the internet in the same way as they previously did, with Smartphones now being the number one choice for internet connection.

The reason for this shift is because mobile devices can have quicker access and are usually switched on throughout the day - meaning that they are easier offer increased accessibility. This means that most people now access the internet whilst out and about, meaning that they are connecting to a number of different networks.

Smartphone devices are also capable of receiving emails in the same way that they receive text messages, making them just as vulnerable to viruses and online threats as computers. Smartphones can also contain a lot of personal information, such as bank details, and can therefore lead to identity fraud being committed.

In order to protect yourself from these new dangers it is important that you invest in mobile antivirus. This is software which is designed to protect your mobile from viruses and other online threats. Mobile devices can often be constantly connected to a network or internet connection, in order to allow emails to be received instantly. This means they need constant antivirus protection to keep all of their data protected.

When considering mobile antivirus is protection it is vital that you don't neglect your PC. All computers and laptops need to have antivirus software installed in order to ensure that they continue to function safely. These programmes will run in the background of the system and will usually operate and update themselves automatically.

If you are unsure about whether a particular type of antivirus will work on your system then consider taking advantage of free antivirus trials. These are readily available and usually provide 30 days of free antivirus protection, allowing you to evaluate their effectiveness before purchasing a full annual subscription.
