Inject a new lease of life into your home by making some bespoke changes

The New Year is the perfect time to get cracking on some home improvements. Whether you want to add a little touch here and there or make some big bold decisions now's the time to breathe some fresh life into your home. Giving yourself a new focus and perspective at the start of the year could make it one to remember.

Here are just a few tips for a new start in your home.

Get your bedroom fitted out

We spend so much time in the bedroom it should really reflect our personality. We need it to be comfortable, relaxing, but also practical. There's no point not getting it right, which is why fitted bedroom furniture is surely the way to go. Not only will this ensure all the space in the room is utilised to your advantage, by going down the route of bespoke fitted furniture you can make all the key decisions on style.

Create your very own den

This is an excellent option if you want to upgrade the functionality and usage of a space, despite not having any extra room. You could trick out a corner, or repurpose a cupboard or closet by removing shelves, giving it a lick of paint then adding a chair and a desk with a little light on it. Add a calendar and a phone and there's nothing you can't achieve.

Organize your closet and chest of drawers

First thing to do is empty everything out and go through it ruthlessly. Ask yourself, do you wear that? Are you likely to wear it again? Make the decision on what you want to throw away and stick to it.

Now you can start to get systematic by adding drawers, dividers and boxes. Hey presto your wardrobe and your mind are free of clutter.

Refresh the entrance to your home

Always a great spirit lifter this one. Paint your front door, it can be therapeutic. Take it right off its hinges, sand it back and paint it a lively colour. Get polishing the letterbox and doorbell. Splash out on a fancy new house number. Get some grout and sandpaper on the frame. You'll be the envy of your street.

Sort your lighting out

Go LED in as many rooms as possible. LED lighting will dramatically lower your electricity bill, and provide you with the opportunity to review your lighting set up making sure all rooms of the home are well lit. Not only that, choosing some innovative lighting in show rooms such as the kitchen will bring a little chic to the home where once it may have appeared tired and boring.

Revitalise your kitchen cabinets

The next best thing to getting a new kitchen is the relatively easy task of sanding and repainting your kitchen cabinets. But don't stop there. Think about your kitchen walls. What can you decorate them with? Some intriguing art? Some repurposed metal? Once you get thinking outside the box, you'll be amazed what you come up with.
