Mrs. Marie Boyle

There was widespread sadness at the death of Mrs. Marie Boyle (née Owens), 71 Old Rossorry Road, Enniskillen. A much respected member of the Enniskillen community, Marie died peacefully on December 16 in the Erne Hospital.

Marie was born in the Erne Hospital, Enniskillen on May 29, 1948, the only daughter of James and Bridget (Bea) Owens, Sessiagh, Arney, Bellanaleck. Marie received her early education at Mullnaveigh Primary School and then as a boarder at Mount Lourdes Grammar School, Enniskillen. Marie took up full time permanent employment in the Northern Ireland Civil Service in 1967 at Crown Buildings, Enniskillen. She had a successful career and progressed to Staff Officer in the West District, retiring in 2006.

In 1973 Marie married Oliver Boyle, a lecturer in Fermanagh College, in Saints Patrick and Felim Cathedral, Cavan. They set up their own home in Old Rossorry Road in 1979. Marie was dedicated to her home and family, was very proud of the academic progress of her children and cherished her grandchildren.

Marie was a member of the Board of Governors for St. Theresa's Primary School, Enniskillen, throughout the years when her daughter Thérèse was a pupil.

Marie inherited a great interest in fashion from her mother who was manageress and buyer in the Ladies' Department for Tully's, later McKerveys, Enniskillen. Marie also loved travelling and had fond memories of her trips to Australia, America, Canada, Italy and France and really enjoyed holidaying in the Algarve.

Marie was a lay communicant in St. Michael's Church, Enniskillen, and in her retirement received much pleasure through her voluntary work with Shop Mobility and her membership of Toastmasters.

The removal of the remains was led by Fr. Brian D'Arcy, rector of the Graan. The funeral service took place on December 18 in St. Michael's Church, Enniskillen, led by Fr. McGahan. Her burial took place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Arney. The funeral arrangements were by Eamon and Mary Cadden.

Marie is survived by her husband Oliver, daughter Thérèse, sons Austin and wife Susan, Karl and wife Deirdre, grandchildren Luke, Sophie and Lucy, her brothers, Maurice and wife Margaret, Arney; Ambrose and wife Lorraine, Belfast; Thomas and wife Philomena, Dublin; her nieces, nephews, in-laws and a wide circle of relatives and friends.

Marie's month's mind mass will take place at 6 p.m. on February 18 in St. Michael's Church, Enniskillen.
