Mrs. Anna Mary (May) Lendrum
A much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Anna Mary (May) Lendrum of Cleen, Fivemiletown, passed away peacefully at the Erne Hospital on 12th January, 2012. She was in her 96th year, being born in 1916.
Mrs. Lendrum grew up at Moysnaught, Clabby, on the family farm. Her parents were John and Dorcas Stewart. Her family later moved to Killybane, Fivemiletown. The last of her generation of the family, she was predeceased by her brothers Robert and Wesley and sisters Kathleen (Brattin) and Ena (Moulder).
In 1946, she married Herbert Lendrum and they made their home at Cleen, Fivemiletown, where they had a family of seven children - John, Norma, Helena, Zelda and Fiona and the late Hiram and Maxwell.
Mrs. Lendrum lived an extremely busy life supporting her husband on their dairy farm, raising seven children and even setting up and running her own poultry laying business. She also reared turkeys for the Christmas market.
She was dedicated to her home and family, her main focuses in life. She was an excellent homemaker, cook and baker. Her home baking and jams were well known.
Following the death of her husband in 1977, Mrs. Lendrum continued to live at Cleen with her son Maxwell, a well-known pedigree dairy farmer.
A woman with a very generous nature, she loved having people calling to visit at her house, where a warm welcome was always extended to all. She also enjoyed many holidays to destinations in Ireland and mainland Britain as well as visiting family and friends.
Her funeral service was held at St. John's Parish Church, Fivemiletown, conducted by the Rev. Kyle Hanlon. The hymns were Father I place into your hands; What a friend we have in Jesus and Shall we gather at the river. The first Bible reading, John Chapter 14, verses 1-6, was read by her son John. Her grandson Chris Scott read the second Bible reading, Revelation 21 verses 1-7. Burial was in the family plot at St. John's Churchyard.
Mrs. Lendrum is survived by her son John, daughters Norma Scott, Helena Cunningham, Zelda Towers and Fiona Cartmill; 13 grandchildren, Duncan and Nicholas Lendrum, Chris Scott, Mark, Rachael and Laura Cunningham; Sara, Lisa and Stephen Towers and Philip, Nichola, Stewart and Michael Cartmill; and three great-grandchildren, Evan, Tilly and Max Lendrum.
The funeral arrangements were by S. R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
