A drunken teenage girl tried to bite the hand that was feeding her and threw flower pots through the windows of a house where she was offered help, Fermanagh Court has heard.

Rachel Elliott, of Trasna Park, Enniskillen, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, suspended for two years, for damaging the house.

No penalty was imposed on her for attacking the woman who lived in the house, assaulting a police officer and being disorderly.

She admitted all four offences.

A prosecutor told the court that around 1.50am on Saturday, February 26, last year, the woman heard crying outside her home at Baragh Gardens, Ballinamallard. She went outside and found Elliott in a distressed state. She brought the teenager into the house, tried to console her and gave her some food. However, Elliott "flipped out". She attacked the woman and tried to bite her. The woman got Elliott off her and the teenager then went outside and began throwing flower pots through the windows of the woman's house. When the police arrived they found that almost every window in the front of the house had been smashed. Elliott was shouting obscenities at the woman in the house. Police heard her say: "I did it and I'm glad I did it. I smashed the windows because she's a whore. I threw the flower pot through it. I'm glad I done it."

The prosecutor said that as Elliott was being taken to the police station in a police car she kicked the driver on his left arm. She later told police she had no memory of the incident as she had been drinking heavily.

Defence solicitor, Mr. Michael Fahy, said it was obviously unsavoury behaviour. Elliott was 17 at the time and had received some bad news, which led to her drinking. She was highly distressed at the time and was highly and unequivocally apologetic.

He pointed out that the incident happened almost a year ago and said the court could take some comfort from the fact that Elliott has not re-offended in that time.
