McCabe wants to prove himself at inter-county level
Fermanagh manager Peter Canavan has been boosted by the news that Shane McCabe has quit Portadown to throw his lot in with the county's footballers.
McCabe was named in a 35 man squad for the National League and Championship and he told the Impartial Reporter that he did not want to have any regrets down the line if he did not take up the offer of playing for Fermanagh.
"I'm 30 years old now and I don't want to look back in five or six years time with regret. It is something that I have been thinking about for the last two weeks and it was a very tough decision but it is something that I want to do. I have never really proven myself as an inter-county footballer and I want to see if I can do that," said McCabe.
The new Fermanagh manager cast his eye over players during the Power NI Dr. McKenna Cup campaign earlier this month and has now settled on a squad although it is believed that the squad will be open-ended and that the management will be watching out for players catching the eye for their clubs when the club season gets underway.
In all, 16 clubs are represented in the squad with Lisnaskea having the biggest representation with five players in the squad while county champions Roslea have four players.
