Hallowe'en uninsured driver banned
A 20-year-old man went to collect relatives from a Hallowe'en night out and was caught driving without insurance, Fermanagh Court has heard
Kevin Keenan, of Shore Road, Roscor, Belleek, admitted the offence and that he failed to produce his licence for examination by police.
He was fined £290 and banned from driving for six months.
A prosecutor told the court that at approximately 1.20am on November 1, last year, police stopped Keenan driving a Vauxhall Vectra along the Shore Road towards Enniskillen. He was unable to produce his licence and insurance at the time and was given seven days to do so. A subsequent check revealed that he had not produced the documents.
Defence solicitor, Mr. Niall Bogue, said it was Hallowe'en night and some of Keenan's relatives were in Belleek socialising. They telephoned asking for a lift and Keenan took his father's car to go and collect them.
The court heard that Keenan had nine penalty points on his licence, including six for a previous offence of driving without insurance.
Mr. Bogue said: "He is aware the loss of licence is inevitable and will cause him some difficulty in getting a job."
Keenan was given six penalty points to add to those already on his licence, resulting in a six-month driving ban.
