Woman conned out of £6,000
A Lisnaskea woman has been conned out of £6,000 from a company claiming to be from the Ministry of Defence.
PSNI Inspector Roy Robinson says the public need to "remain cautious" after a number of similar incidents in the county in recent days.
In Belleek a resident was informed by Strathclyde Police on January 23 that her personal details had been accessed illegally. The officers told the woman that items were being bought from an on-line catalogue using her name, and asked her to make her way to Enniskillen Police Station where she could formally make a statement. Inspector Roy Robinson said this was a case of "significant fraud".
Another incident of fraud was discovered in Boho when an 18-year-old man reported that his Facebook page and Hotmail account had been accessed. There were also attempts to access his Paypal account. Inspector Robinson said text messages were also sent to the young man's friends claiming he was in hospital in Nigeria and needed to be sent money via his Paypal account that he would return when he got home.
And an Enniskillen woman informed police that somebody claiming to be from computer company, Microsoft phoned to offer to clean "viruses" from her computer and asked for credit card details, which she didn't provide.
