Tinseltown's finest to attend Beckett festival?
THERE could be a touch of Hollywood in Enniskillen later this year when the inaugural Samuel Beckett Festival comes to town.
The Impartial Reporter understands that organisers of the international multi-arts festival in August are currently holding talks with some of Tinseltown's finest about visiting Fermanagh to celebrate the work and influence of their "literacy hero", the Nobel Prize winner and old Portoran, Samuel Beckett.
It's believed the festival will feature major Irish, UK and international writers, directors, actors, visual artists, musicians, comedians, circus artists and individuals prominent in their fields. There will also be a range of events reflecting Beckett's favourite sports.
World class writers Edna O'Brien, Alice Oswald, Melvyn Bragg and John Banville are to take part in the event.
'Happy Days' is in collaboration with the London 2012 Festival, and will mark the culmination of the Cultural Olympiad. It will also coincide with the 400th anniversary of the founding of Enniskillen.
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has described the festival as a "major cultural event" which will bring diverse communities together, and mix local and international audiences and artists.
