A man has carried out what the police described as a callous theft on two young woman at a rectory while their father was away.

The man approached the rectory in Derrylin and when the two teenage girls opened the door, the man said their father would be back in five minutes. He was brought inside to wait but went upstairs and the young women thought he was using the bathroom. Instead the man entered a bedroom and stole cash from a drawer. He then left but there was no sign of a car nearby although a suspicious van was seen earlier.

When the rector returned, he discovered money had been missing from a bedside cabinet.

The man is described as being 5 feet 9 inches tall of medium build, brown, floppy hair parted in the middle and a brown beard cut neatly. He wore a red fleece jacket with a zip with a Windows logo and brown boots.

The police want to hear from neighbours who might have seen anything suspicious.
