Double right hand turn for lethal A4 junction
Arlene Foster, MLA; with from left, Billy Taylor, resident, Paul Robinson, councillor and Robert Coalter, Brookeborough Development Association, looking over the plans for the new double right hand lane at the Brookeborough into Station Road and Tempo Road junction.
A "dangerous" junction on the Belfast Road at Brookeborough is to be improved following pleas from concerned residents and politicians.
Minister for Regional Development, Danny Kennedy, says a double right-hand turning facility is to be introduced into Station Road and Tempo Road this summer.
The improvement to the junction comes after locals accused Roads Service Division of 'ignoring' calls for a right hand turn on the road where a driver lost his life and where last year an ambulance and flatbed lorry crashed.
In a letter to DUP MLA Arlene Foster, who raised the issue, Danny Kennedy advised her of the changes plus further plans on upgrading the A4 Belfast Road between Fivemiletown.
Mr. Kennedy wrote: "The stretch of road is 27.5 kms long and over the past four years 9.15 kms (approximately 30 per cent) of it has been resurfaced. Road Service plan to resurface a further 2.7 kms this summer which will bring the amount resurfaced in five years to 43 per cent of its length".
Mr. Kennedy said the work planned demonstrated that this particular portion of road network is receiving "appropriate attention in accordance with its maintenance needs".
Councillor Paul Robinson said the improvement was "very welcomed" while Arlene Foster MLA added: "This has been long awaited by the residents of Brookeborough".
