Partner told police man was 'wrecking house'
A 32-year-old man was drinking with his partner when he overturned a table and began "wrecking the house", Fermanagh Court has heard.
Sean Paul Cassidy, of Sycamore Drive, Cavanaleck, Enniskillen, admitted assaulting a police officer and damaging a door belonging to the Ulidia Housing Association.
He was fined £350 and ordered to pay £187 compensation to Ulidia.
Bail was fixed for an appeal.
A prosecutor told the court that around 1am, on Sunday, July 31, last year, the injured party called the police to say Cassidy was "wrecking the house". Officers arrived to hear shouting coming from inside. They saw a man and woman arguing and when they tried to gain entry, Cassidy stood in the doorway, preventing them from getting into the house. An officer attempted to push past, but Cassidy lunged at him and tried to strike out at him. Cassidy was put to the ground, where he kicked out with his feet, and during the struggle an officer's wrist watch was damaged.
The court heard that Cassidy had been drinking with his partner when he tipped over the table and tried to grab her.
Defence barrister, Miss Heather Philips, said the property Cassidy damaged was his own, with the exception of the door. Alcohol had been consumed and his partner contacted the police. The couple remained in a relationship.
She said this was a blip on an otherwise very positive progression by Cassidy to remain outside the criminal justice system.
